On January 13, the Advanced Technology Center opened to Bismarck State College students and staff. BSC staff attended a meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the building’s auditorium for the official opening ceremony.
Construction on the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) began on November 29, 2022, when BSC broke ground by the National Energy Center of Excellence (NECE). Progress on the ATC was initially slow, but as the months grew warmer, the work got done at a faster rate.
The ATC is 88,000 square feet. Situated between the Armory and the NECE, the ATC features a view of the Missouri River. Large windows allow natural light into the building, which is especially noticeable on the second and third floors.
The building contains learning spaces such as a Digital Hive, a Security Operations Center, virtual reality labs, flex labs, collaboration spaces, and a live event venue.
The ATC features the theme of STEAM. STEAM is an educational style that incorporates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, which is shown in the features of the ATC building. Through the Advanced Technology Center, the college hopes to connect different programs and industry partners through collaboration on a variety of projects. The ATC is a three-story building and includes an area for the theater program, which is moving into the building from Schafer Hall. Other features of the ATC include large LED screens, a new PowerBean coffee shop, and a history wall with photos ranging from BSC’s days as Bismarck Junior College to the present. It is also connected to the NECE by a skywalk.
The Advanced Technology Center is now open. Whether you need a study space or a drink at the PowerBean, now is a good time to check out the space.
