Gage Miller is an infielder and pitcher for the Mandan Chiefs. Miller proved his skill as a first baseman and pitcher through his strategic plays, quick catches, and strong pitching in the game against the Grand Forks Post 6 Royals.
Miller has been playing ball all his life. His inspiration to play baseball is centered around family, as well as a desire to play at the collegiate level.
“My brother and my cousins all played baseball at the collegiate level, and it made me want to do that as well,” Miller said. “So I am following in their footsteps.”
Miller’s favorite part about playing with his team is based on his friendships with the players, who he has known since childhood.
“I grew up with these guys and I have a lot of childhood bonds with them. It's just awesome playing with them in all my years [of baseball].”
Miller recently finished his freshman year of college at Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa. He will return to DMACC in the fall to continue playing collegiate baseball.
Miller sees baseball as something that will always be a part of his life, as well as an opportunity for scholarships.
“I’m going to try and get a scholarship out of it. That's the main goal right now, but also to have fun while I do it.”
Miller looks forward to the rest of the Chiefs season and the state tournament. Even though the season is coming to an end, Miller’s goal is to rally in wins to prepare for the state tournament.
“To play our best baseball at the end of the year is always important, going into the state [tournament]. So just rallying some wins before we get to the state tournament is the main goal.”
Miller’s contribution to the team as an infielder and his desire to win shows in his attitude and playing style. Miller left off with something Chiefs fans will be cheering as the team works to finish their season strong.
“Go Chiefs!”
