Troy Gerhardt is an outfielder for the Mandan Chiefs. He has played baseball since he was seven years old. Gerhardt learned to love the sport through his childhood experiences at the baseball fields, watching his brothers play with the Chiefs. In an interview after the Senators game, Gerhardt shared his inspiration to play baseball.
“My brothers played a big part in it, and same with my family. My brothers were the biggest part about that,” Gerhardt said. “I really wanted to play for the Chiefs because my brothers played all their life, and it inspired me to go out there and play my hardest every day.”
Gerhardt also hopes to attend college and play college baseball in the future. His goals include getting good grades, making his family proud, and continuing to play baseball. He shared some advice for younger baseball players.
“Stick with it. It's not gonna work out right away, but just keep going with it, and it'll work out in the end.”
Although the Chiefs did not claim the win against the Senators, Gerhardt looks forward to the rest of the season with positivity.
“We didn't start too hot, and I think that just translated all the way through the game. Hopefully tomorrow is better, and we just get better every day.”
